A royal appointment at The Queens Arms, for the launch of new brew Legless Liz

Offering an authentic sip of the Somerset countryside, The Queens Arms’ brand new brew, Legless Liz, will be unveiled by ‘Brew It Yourself’ authors Rich Hood and Nick Moyle on Saturday 19 March, in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday. Well known for a menu inspired by produce from the Corton Denham pub’s kitchen garden and smallholding, the bar’s own home-grown creation will be launched by Rich and Nick, also known as the Two Thirsty Gardeners, who will be on hand to pull the first pint and mark the occasion with a few words on the finer points of fermentation.

With intriguing earthy flavours and carefully balanced fresh floral notes, this is a perfectly tailored tipple to celebrate Somerset’s rural majesty. Developed with award-winning local brewery, Gyle 59, Legless Liz is a Saison beer that can trace its roots back through a long tradition of farmhouse ales. The Saison beer has a distinctive cloudy appearance, owing to its natural, unfined nature, with the brewers favouring flavour rather than introducing isinglass finings to add clarity to the beer. As isinglass is made from the swim bladders of fish, Legless Liz can also be enjoyed by vegetarians and vegans. 

The Legless Liz launch will give ale aficionados the chance to sample the very first batch of The Queens Arms’ lovingly crafted brew; a beer with a gentle malty base, allowing the earthy, peppery and spicy Saison yeast flavours to combine with an intriguing mixture of punchy citrus, resinous and classic floral hops. At 3.8% abv, Legless Liz is refreshingly light and can even boast a home-grown name, after owners Gordon and Jeanette Reid asked regulars to help christen their right royal tipple. On the day of the launch, every tap at the bar will be serving up one of Gyle 59’s spring-fed, log-powered beers, so those inspired by the art of the unfined artisan ale will be in for a treat.

Legless Liz will also be available to purchase in bottles from The Queens Arms, for a price of £20 for four.
