A space to sew at GROW London

Inspired by the 18th Century female textile artists working around Spitalfields, award-winning garden designer Francesca Murrell from Nature Redesigned (www.natureredesigned.co.uk), is turning Plankbridge’s coveted Little Writer’s Hut into a Stitcher’s Retreat. The transformed space contained within is a scaled down version of a traditional Victorian shepherd’s hut, will host a number of embroidery workshops on Francesca’s show garden at this year’s GROW London, the new contemporary gardener’s show taking place at Hampstead Heath from 19 – 21 June 2015.

The Dorset-based hutmaker’s weathered and lovingly aged hut will be decorated with detailed works by textile artist, Corrine Young (www.corinneyoungtextiles.co.uk), as well as an embroidered chair, real and stitched plants, and antique sewing props. The Stitcher’s Retreat will be surrounded by wild flowers, heritage vegetables and herbs, providing an uplifting space for gardeners and embroiderers alike to take inspiration from their surroundings.

“Since winning Silver at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2012, our Little Writer’s Hut has been on an intriguing journey. Tracey Chevalier took inspiration from its surroundings at RHS Chelsea Flower Show to write part of her novel, The Last Runaway, Kate Humble borrowed it while she waited for her own shepherd’s hut and it’s featured in all sorts of events since, even becoming a radio studio for the weekend last summer. It’s great to see it return to London for a contemporary gardening event and take on a new role as the Stitcher’s Retreat.”
