Only Fools and Horses star visits The Green Shed in Sherborne

The Green Shed - Denis Lil

On Wednesday 22 October, actor Denis Lill, best known for his role as Rodney Trotter’s father-in-law in classic British sitcom, Only Fools and Horses, visited The Green Shed in Sherborne, to help celebrate its fourth birthday. Based at Castle Gardens and run by Dorset County Council, The Green Shed provides work for adults with learning difficulties, with the team producing kindling, plant troughs and other items using recycled materials.

With a career spanning six decades, taking on roles in film and television alike, Denis spent the morning sharing his experiences with The Green Shed’s service users, having worked with the likes of Nicholas Lyndhurst, David Jason and Rowan Atkinson to name but a few.

Barry Watts, coordinator of The Green Shed, explains;

“We were delighted to have Denis along to celebrate our anniversary with us and we are very grateful to him for spending time talking to our service users. A lot of laughs were had and it was fascinating to hear his anecdotes about filming Only Fools and Horses, The Royal and the 1975 TV series Survivors.”

The Green Shed, which opened in October 2010 and was part-funded by local body Chalk + Cheese, is situated in an area at the rear of Castle Gardens in Sherborne, Dorset. It was established after the Whitehouse Resource Centre in Sherborne closed and currently opens four days a week, during which time adults with learning difficulties are able to use the workshop to further develop community recycling projects, including wood recycling, knitting and making a variety of wooden items.  The atmosphere at The Green Shed has developed into a place where people feel instantly at home and included – work, companionship and support are at the core of this successful community project.
