Corks pop as Savour Beer is announced as Great Taste Small Artisan Producer of the Year

Savour Beer

The Great Taste awards celebrates the very best in food and drink. The Great Taste Small Artisan Producer of the Year award has been presented to Savour Beer of Windsor, Berkshire for its Sparkling Beer Brut. The award, which is presented each year to a producer who is at an early stage of their business, or has two or less employees, was created by the Guild of Fine Food to encourage new artisans. More than a trophy, this award also presents real value to its winner as the prize includes advice, support and mentoring from relevant professionals including an already established and successful food producer.

The award was presented to Sandy Kirkpatrick, founder and creator of Savour Beer, in front of over 300 guests from the world of fine food at the Great Taste Golden Forks Dinner held on Monday 7 September at The Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington. Sandy Kirkpatrick set up Savour Beer in 2013 after being inspired by Belgian Saison beers traditionally brewed by farmers during winter as a light, refreshing drink for workers during the summer. Savour Beer now produces a range of specialist British Saison beers from its Berkshire-based brewery.

A tribute to Champagne, Savour Beer’s Sparkling Beer Brut really captured judges’ attention this year with its originality and character, earning a 3-star award and being named in the Top 50 Foods. The classic Saison with an innovative twist is made in small batches, bottle-aged for 100 days and then riddled and disgorged to remove the yeast sediment before the cork is inserted. The panel found the golden beer to be “incredibly distinctive with bags of complexity” and especially enjoyed the floral elderflower notes on the nose.

The Small Artisan Producer of the Year award was sponsored by Selfridges.
