Orange Blossom Water creates a buzz at Great Taste, winning Best Imported Food 2015
The Great Taste awards celebrates the very best in food and drink. The Great Taste Golden Fork for Best Imported Food has been presented to Saveur du Maroc from London for its Organic Orange Blossom Water. Used extensively in traditional Moroccan and Middle Eastern cooking, orange blossom water is now a key ingredient in many cocktails, desserts and baking recipes much closer to home.
Many innovative bakers are big fans of the product, including Great Taste 2015 judge, Frances Quinn, who explains;
“Orange blossom water has so many culinary and baking uses, so is a key ingredient in a number of recipes in my new cookbook, Quinntessential Baking. My Orange Blossom Marzipan Bees (pictured above) are probably the most notable, having become somewhat of a signature of mine since they featured on the wedding cake I baked in the final of the Great British Bake Off in 2013.”
A taste of Saveur du Maroc’s Organic Orange Blossom Water, which is produced using fresh ingredients and centuries-old hand processing techniques, transported food writer, Joanna Blythman, back to “walking through orange groves in Sicily” while the other judges marvelled at its beautiful aroma and fresh taste.
The award was presented to Safiyah Dahbi Skali at the Great Taste Golden Forks Dinner held on Monday 7 September at The Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, where over 300 guests from the world of fine food gathered to hear the results of many months of rigorous judging.
The Best Imported Food award was sponsored by Speciality & Fine Food Fair and also nominated this year was a Great Taste 3-star 75% Foratero Cocoa and Coffee Nib – Brazil by London-based Åkesson’s and a Great Taste 3-star Basazabel Artzai Gazta Idiazabel Cheese from Arkuate in Spain
