Pupils prepare for pepper growing competition
Pupils at Huish Primary School in Yeovil have been invited by Brimsmore Gardens to take part in The Gardens Group’s new Young Grower of the Year competition. Reception class has received pre-potted bell pepper plants to grow in the classroom, while pupils are also encouraged to collect their free pepper growing kit, along with instructions from the garden centre on Tintinhull Road in Yeovil, to have a go at home.
The children will have until Wednesday 8 July to grow their bell peppers before one of Brimsmore Gardens’ experts will judge the entries. The pupil who manages to grow the healthiest plant with the largest and most vibrant coloured peppers will be awarded with The Gardens Group’s Young Grower of the year trophy.
Alexa Blackmore from Brimsmore Gardens, explains;
“Nothing quite compares to the feeling of picking and eating your own home grown vegetables and this is a great opportunity for children and their families to give it a go. You don’t need a huge garden either, a nice sunny window sill can still produce the most delicious peppers. There is such a wide variety of vegetables to choose from and we really hope this competition inspires families to grow their own.”
The judging will take place at Huish Primary School during Brimsmore Gardens’ Chilli Pepper Festival, which will run from Monday 6 – Sunday 12 July 2015.
