New Dorset hideaway far from the madding crowd

Ways Forge

Using time-honoured craftsmanship, reclaimed timber and statement furniture, Dorset-based shepherd’s hut maker, Plankbridge has renovated a Victorian Blacksmith’s Forge, transforming it into a charming holiday retreat. Way’s Forge is situated in the heart of Hardy country in rural Dorset, the county which has recently been listed in The Guardian’s top 40 holiday destinations for 2015.

With exposed stone walls, an open plan living area with a raised wood burner sitting in the restored blacksmith’s fireplace and a partition wall made from an old railway goods wagon separating the kitchen, Way’s Forge offers a unique, rustic and welcoming space for couples or small families to unwind and celebrate the enchanting countryside that inspired Thomas Hardy’s novels, such as Far from the Madding Crowd.

Way’s Forge, aptly named after its Victorian proprietor, has off-road parking, two bedrooms, sleeps three people in total and up to two dogs are more than welcome too. Escapes to Way’s Forge start at £316 per week and bookings can be made by contacting Dream Cottages on 01305 789000 or visiting www.dream-cottages.co.uk.
